It is important to have a good reference work at hand that covers both the antibiotic agents and the therapies. Prof. Achim Hörauf, Director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology at the UKB, carried out the preparatory work for the contract with Thieme Verlag in 2016 as the then President of the Paul Ehrlich Society, then redefined the overall concept together with the other editorial colleagues and also supervised the chapters on infections caused by parasites as the leading author. Several of the Institute's senior physicians also contributed: Dr. Ernst Molitor, PD Dr. Gunnar Hischebeth and Dr. Ingrid Reiter-Owona.
