Together against antimicrobial resistance: strategies, innovations and international cooperation

Under the patronage of Dr. Georg Kippels MdB, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group against Antimicrobial Resistance, a panel discussion was held on the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Germany and possible solutions. Discussions included measures in the context of antibiotic stewardship (ABS), such as hospital hygiene and the promotion and development of new antibiotics.

The Japanese pharmaceutical company Shionogi together with the German Network against Antimicrobial Resistance organized the event to promote the exchange of knowledge about challenges and international best practices.

Dr. Alison Luckey from the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership (GARDP) highlighted the importance of a licensing and technology transfer agreement with Shionogi. This is intended to significantly improve global access to antibiotics. In particular, this relates to a drug for the treatment of serious bacterial infections, including lung and urinary tract infections, which can be resistant to other antibiotics.
