PhD student position (m/f/d)
The Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology (IMMIP) at the University Hospital Bonn has an immediate vacancy for the following full-time position (38.5 hours/week).
The position is available for three years with the possibility of an extension.
The IMMIP (Director, Prof. Dr. med. Achim Hoerauf) invites applications for a Ph.D. student position in the research group of Dr. Manuel Ritter about neglected tropical diseases (e.g., helminth infections) and their influence on concomitant infections and diseases. Besides international research projects especially in Africa, the AG Ritter is using the filarial mouse model Litomosoides sigmodontis
to analyse filarial-specific immune responses and signalling mechanisms (for further information see www.microbiology-bonn.de/en/research/dr-manuel-ritter). The group of Dr. Ritter is funded by the DFG within the German-African Cooperation Projects in Infectiology (Projects: MARAG and MAP-TB).
Ihre Aufgaben
- Immunological, microbiological and parasitological research
- Independent performance of scientific experiments and their analysis
- Participation in international collaborative projects including lab work, training and organisation of workshop in African countries
- Participation in the courses for students
Ihr Profil
- An MSc or equivalent degree in (molecular) biology, biochemistry, immunology or microbiology
- Practical experience in immunology, parasitology and microbiology
- Good command of spoken and written English
- An interest in immunology, parasitology and tropical diseases research
- The ability to work well in a group as well as independently
- The willingness to work in the laboratories of our collaborators in Africa (e.g., Cameroon, Togo, Ghana and Tanzania) for several weeks/year

The Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology (IMMIP) at the University Hospital Bonn has an open full-time position (38.5 hrs/week) to be filled as soon as possible: Technical Assistant (m/f/d) (BTA, MT(L)A or VTA).
The position is project-related and fixed-term, three years with extension possibility.
Your tasks:
- Support projects in the testing of new substances for the treatment of worm infections
- Support of research projects
- Work with human sample material (skin nodules, blood, urine, saliva)
- Preparation of histological and immunohistological specimens
- Molecular biological methods (especially (RT-) PCR)
- Serological examination methods such as ELISA, antibody tests
- Participation in general laboratory activities and organizational tasks, including diagnostics and animal house
Your profile:
- Completed training as BTA, MT(L)A or VTA
- Experience in the following areas:
- Histology
- Preparation and staining of slides
- Experience with the evaluation of histological preparations desirable
- PCR
- Execution of work steps according to existing protocols
- Experience in establishing new protocols is desirable
- Histology
- Previous experience in pre-clinical/clinical research is desirable
- Experience in diagnostic laboratories is desirable
- Experience with rodents and appropriate certification (e.g. FELASA) is desirable
- Independent work, flexibility, reliability, high commitment and organizational skills are expected
- Structured way of working with detailed protocol management
- Willingness to learn and establish new methods
- General PC knowledge and sound basics in Microsoft Office
